The most innovative good practice projects from 29 communities in the Republic of Moldova are to be visited in the next period to see live how the success stories are implemented. The communities were selected on August 20, by the members of the Steering Group of the Best Practices Programme of Local Authorities at a meeting. The Best Practices Programme is implemented by IDIS "Viitorul" with the support of the Council of Europe and aims at identifying, promoting and disseminating good practices among local public authorities in the Republic of Moldova, thus contributing to the efficiency of local governance.
Among the good practices that the localities in the country are proud of, we can mention the photovoltaic park from Feștelița village from Ștefan Vodă district, a village with energy intelligence; the fire and rescue service from Bravicea village (Călărași district); tourist routes from Sipoteni, Călărași district; the traditional “GurmanIA” cuisine festival in Țarigrad, attended by over 250 visitors; the festival for the promotion of our dowry from our ancestors “La Bășcuțele din Țîra” from Ghindești commune, Floresti district; urban hackathlon “Your city is changing for you. Together with you”, from Ungheni municipality, within which 11 concepts for modernizing the center of Ungheni municipality were proposed to the local authorities; thermal rehabilitation of institutional buildings in the city of Cantemir and the list goes on.
This year's competition involves 64 of the most innovative best practices, implemented by 40 local public authorities in Moldova between 2019-2020. The sections to which local governments have applied are: 1. Transparent governance for efficient public administration 2. Local development through community involvement; 3. Energy efficiency - a priority for any locality; 4. Authentic traditions at home.
Regarding the distribution of practices by regions, the Center area remains the most active. Therefore, 39 best practices from 21 communities were submitted from the Center, 14 best practices from 11 communities were submitted from the South, and 11 best practices from eight communities were submitted from the Northern region of the republic.
"At the local level we work with a lot of effort and dedication, and through the competition of best practices we want to encourage local communities and public authorities. The Best Practices Programme is the only program that manages to highlight the good practices of LPA with limited resources, but with dedicated people, united community, responsibility and high capacities", mentioned the president of CALM, Tatiana Badan.
Once visited, communities will organize open days (online or live, depending on the epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 infection in the country), and the best examples of good practice will be included in an Anthology of best practices and will be awarded in a festive ceremony at the end of 2021.

Valeriu Musteață, the mayor of Săiți village and a member of the Steering Committee Group, added “I am glad to be part of the Steering Group, and this activity helps me a lot in my activity as mayor. Through this project I have the opportunity to know the good practices of my colleagues from all over the country, to inspire me and to implement them in my locality. At the same time, I appreciate the local public authorities who have good teams at the local level and manage to raise resources on their own, to mobilize citizens and to win good practice projects, which contribute to the development of communities”.
The Steering Group of the Best Practices Programme monitors and evaluates the implementation of the Best Practices Program, oversees the evaluation and selection of best practices of local government.
The Best Practices Programme of Local Authorities in Moldova is implemented by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) "Viitorul", with the financial support of the Council of Europe.
