Republic of Moldova, at the rush of mass media manipulation in Russia

The Republic of Moldova, from an informational point of view, is dominated by Russian propaganda. It is a problem that gives headaches to EU states and tries through various mechanisms to limit misinformation. However, Moldovan citizens are limited to having the most equidistant information about the RM - EU relationship and the benefits of this economic relationship. It is the opinion expressed in the program "15 minutes of economic realism" by Ion Tăbârţă, the political analyst.

"The EU is associated with citizens with the corrupt political class in Chisinau and the theft of the billion in the banking sector. On the other hand, Moldovans have no truthful information about embargoes imposed by the Russian Federation since 2013. The perception of the public is that what happened to the Republic of Moldova in the relationship with the Russian Federation is our fault, "Tăbârţă said.

According to him, the erosion of confidence in the EU was due to the fact that the European project in the Republic of Moldova was an elitist one. The Moldovan authorities did not have enough communication to reach out to the ordinary citizen to explain what the EU is, what are the values of the community and the economic benefits. In the context, since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis, Russian propaganda has become very insistent and very aggressive and is spreading through RussiaToday and Sputnik, and the EU is trying to restrict it through certain mechanisms. As a result of Russian propaganda, the ordinary citizen does not benefit from correct information about the economic benefits of the RM-EU relationship.

Russian propaganda is broadcast on the territory of the Republic of Moldova by means of retransmission of Russian channels, which are an important source of advertising, and from them, several politicians have drawn dividends. Through the redistributed environments on the territory of the ex-Soviet states, the Russian Federation leads a strong geopolitical struggle. Moscow does not have enough economic leverage to keep these states in its sphere of influence, so it uses media to manipulate. One example is the election campaign in 2014 when the rating of President Igor Dodon and Zinaida Greceanii rose significantly after they appeared in a photo with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the party he led took most of the mandates in Parliament.

Recently, a draft law was passed in parliament to combat Russian propaganda, as long as I'm going to be implemented, we are going to see, Tăbârţă concluded.
