The Institute for Development and Social Initiates (IDIS) ”Viitorul” discussed on Saturday, Mai 29, with students from Călărași district the motion ”Without educating the population, energy efficiency will be impossible” in the Karl Popper debate competition. The activities were part of the project "Promoting energy efficiency in Călărași district".

Six teams participated in the competition, of three students each, from three high schools in Călărași district: "Mihail Sadoveanu" Theoretical High School, "Mihail Eminescu" Theoretical High School and "Vasile Alecsandri" Theoretical High School. Until the competition, the students had several online game learning sessions, then they read, found out, and in the debates, they made arguments, brought evidence and examples, have expressed and supported their point of view, synthesized ideas, and asked a series of questions on the topic ”Without educating the population, energy efficiency will be impossible”.

The debates took place in two rounds. Each team was both affirmative and negative. As a result, only one team won in both roles and was named the winner. It was represented by Vameș Tatiana, Vameș Gheorghe and Stratan Mihaela from the ”Vasile Alexandri” Theoretical High School. The other team from ”Vasile Alexandri” Theoretical High School was in second place and was formed of Șeremet Cristina, Antoci Cristian, and Pituscan Marinela. The students from "Mihail Sadoveanu" Theoretical High School were ranked third: Olaru Valeria, Leciu Alexia, and Simion Daniela. The top five speakers were named in the competition. These were Simion Daniela, Șeremet Cristina, Stratan Mihaela, Mogîldea Olivia and Vameș Tatiana.

The winners and coaches of the teams were awarded diplomas, folders, notebooks, encyclopedia books that address energy efficiency topics, Power Banks, backpacks, T-shirts, pens, and ecological peats.

The theme of the debates was organized in order to promote energy-efficient behavior among the younger generation, to sensitize it on existing energy efficiency measures, and determine teenagers to implement them in daily life to help improve the quality of the environment and protect the environment. At the same time, the purpose of organizing such debates is to cultivate a critical and constructive attitude among young people, as well as awareness of the values ​​of active and democratic citizenship, by understanding social realities, supporting cult dialogue, and non-discrimination. It also aims to develop the skills of documentation, argumentation, and the use of evidence in the development of argumentative discourse.
