EU/ The winners of the essays contest regarding promoting energy efficiency in Calarasi district were awarded

28 students from Calarasi district, participants in the essay contest: ”Promoting energy efficiency”, organized at the end of the year, were awarded on Thursday, January 14, in the festive event. The students, aged 12-17 years, studying in various educational institutions from villages/towns from Calarasi district, e.g: Theoretic High School Mihail Sadoveanu and gymnasium Ion Creanga from Calarasi town, Theoretic High School from Tibirica village, gymnasium from Oniscani, Hirjauca, Temeleut, Saseni, Horodiste, and Badiceni villages. 

The activity was realized in the project ”Promoting energy efficiency in Calarasi distinct”, implemented between August 2020-2021, by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives ”Viitorul”.

During the event were offered five first degree diplomas, four-second degree diplomas, and three third-degree diplomas. The students received as prizes various encyclopedias, books, publications, power banks, etc. The essays which were awarded will be published in the Anthology of Good Practices. First-degree diplomas were awarded to students: David Simion, Ticu Olesea, Harea Laura, Iavorschi Daniel, and Timbal Maria. Second-degree diplomas went to Chilan Ilinca, Roscov Valeria, Simion Daniela, and Turcanu Vlad. Third-degree diplomas were offered to students: Tulbea Iuliana, Crudu Adriana, and Luca Evelina. The other participants received diplomas of mention. Also, all participants received eco-friendly bags, notebooks, folders, ecological pens, t-shirts.

The vice-president of Calarasi district, Zinaida Turcanu, at the beginning of the event thanked the students for participating in the contest, for involvement, and for the fact that they expressed their thoughts about how they want to see the district and the city of Calarasi. She also says that the district Council elaborated a draft of the District Development Strategy, where the field of energy efficiency was included. ” You are the younger generation, who see things differently, you want the changes to come differently. I hope very much that your opinion will be found in that area”, said Zinaida Turcanu.

The executive director of IDIS "Viitorul", Liubomir Chiriac, said that energy efficiency today is an important topic for everyone, and by organizing this contest was wanted for today's generation to take responsibility and to get involved more actively in this process related to energy efficiency. ” Through the ideas, through the thoughts, through the attitude expressed in the essays is shown that coming to an active generation, quite prompt and we hope that the Republic of Moldova will advance on this subject, even if at this moment we import a lot of energy. But we believe that in the nearest future we will be able to reduce this issue”, said Liubomir Chiriac.

The project manager, Carolina Ungureanu, mentioned that is an NGO that encourages civic initiative, develops critical thinking, and says things by name, but also it comes with recommendations and improvements. ”The exercises which you did reflects the essence of what we do as an NGO. We try to evaluate, and express our beautiful ideas on paper, we provide recommendations, and when we see some perspectives, we aim for a strategy towards what we want and strive to make things achievable”, said Carolina Ungureanu.

”The contest was very useful. I revised my knowledge, and I could show my talent while I was writing my thoughts and worries. I found a lot of interesting information, such as good practices that we can take into consideration to promote energy efficiency. In the contest, we have strengthened our civic spirit. We have realized that all essential changes start with us”, said the winner Daniela Simion, a student at Theoretical High School "Mihail Sadoveanu" from Calarasi.

”In the contest, I had the chance to study carefully about electricity production and the ways to use it effectively. The contest allowed teenagers to reflect on improving their living conditions on their initiative. The prizes were excellent”, said Vlad Turcanu, winner, a student at Theoretical High School from Tibirica village.

”Efficiency energy must become a priority not only for Calarasi district, but also for the whole country. Through a few simple actions, each of us can help to protect the environment, to conserve energy sources, to promote an efficient way to use them”, mentioned in his essay the winner Valeria Roscov, a student at Theoretical High School "Mihail Sadoveanu" from Calarasi.
